The Long and the Short of It Benefit

  • The Coffee House 2717 East Hampshire Street Milwaukee, WI, 53211 United States (map)

As the year’s longest night and shortest day bring their magic to our calendar, we celebrate with songs that reflect on these changes. Join us for an evening with some of our favorite performers, and all for a great cause! This evening we have music from Brett Kemnitz with Carol Lee Hopkins, Scott Dunnington with Steve Girman, and Scott and Paula Emmons.

Carol Lee Hopkins has been a respected member of the Milwaukee acoustic music community for many years. Her heartfelt vocals have enhanced recordings by Larry Penn, Barb & Tom Webber, and, most prominently, her husband Jym Mooney and the popular band The Moxie Chicks. Brett Kemnitz has been writing and singing wonderfully crafted songs for decades. Living in the heart of the city, he has been a guiding light for The Coffee House from the beginning, and has been an inspiration and support for Milwaukee's folk scene.

Steve Girman has been presenting his engaging ukulele performances for children around Wisconsin for decades. He has more recently crossed over into "music for grown-ups." Scott Dunnington has been strumming guitars for about 60 years. For the past 8 years he has run the Lake Country Ukulele Club, playing the bass and arranging songs for ukulele. Their repertoire represents over a century of familiar favorites.

Scott and Paula Emmons are a guitar-and-uke duo playing a wide variety of music. Scott plays bass and sings for Eccentric Acoustic.
