“We will start with some very basic exercises designed to train the picking hand fingers to effortlessly and accurately pluck strings. These exercises can be modified in many ways to minimize the tedium of rote exercises.

“We then proceed to some basic picking patterns, demonstrating how they can be used to accompany songs. Building on patterns, I talk about how to add licks and melody fragments to song arrangements.

“The next step is melody picking, for which I use 'Freight Train' and some other tunes to demonstrate the process of adding complete melodies to an arrangement.

“Depending on how much time remains, I will talk about adding variation and improvisation into song arrangements.”
